KB0014691: How to activate OneSpan Mobile Authenticator via 2-Step Offline Activation using a Color

Summary

When you want to activate the OneSpan Mobile Authenticator (also known as the golden app), you need to perform some configurations on the OneSpan Authentication Server (OAS)  in combination with OneSpan User Websites (UWS)
This article explains how to define the correct Client record in OAS.

Procedure

  1. Install OneSpan User Websites
  2. Create a Client in OAS
  3. License the client

For all the different options in the OneSpan User Websites  you need a different client record in the OAS.
In this KB article we are going to activate the OneSpan Mobile Authenticator using the option 2-Step Offline Activation using a Color QR Code.

To find out which client component is used with this option of the OneSpan User Websites we need to enable OAS full tracing.

  1. Assign OneSpan Mobile Authenticator to the correct user
  2. the Open the User websites
  3. Click 2-Step Offline Activation using a Color QR Code option
  4. Login with the user credentials and you will get the following error message

  5. Now you need to open the OAS full trace file and navigate to that login. There you will find the client component error that is missing

  6. You can see that the Client Type "UWS MDL Provisioning" could not be found. So you need to create this client component in the OAS

  7. Go to the OAS web administration and create the following client component for the IP address of the User Websites. This is not a pre-defined Client Type, so you will have to type the value "UWS MDL Provisioning".

  8. Now when you try to activate the OneSpan Mobile Authenticator, the activation will succeed and you can continue the activation process
